Our Dental Implant Process
We want our patients to rest assured that when it comes to their dental implant placement procedure, the process can be easy and painless. In most instances, your treatment can be quickly, safely, and painlessly performed in just a few short office visits. Here is some additional information about dental implant placement at Cape Dental Care:
How Can I Get Started?
Once you decide that you would like to try dental implants, your first step is to make an appointment for a comprehensive dental implant evaluation. During this appointment, your mouth, teeth, and jaw will be examined, as well as your medical and dental history. You will also have X-rays taken and possibly a CAT scan. All of this will give us a good idea of your jawbone density and what needs to be done to ensure the best opportunity for dental implant success.
Get The Details
Next, we will provide you with a written estimate for the cost of your procedure and allow you the chance to ask questions. It is important that you understand the process and are willing to commit the time and effort that will be required for proper dental implant placement. For a recommended list of questions, please see our Dental Implants InfoSite page on Choosing A Dental Implant Provider.
Your Dental Implant Placement Procedure
Phase One: This phase will be performed in your doctor’s office with local anesthesia or light sedation to help ensure a comfortable experience. First we will start with a small incision in the area where the implant will be. Then we will gently ease the implant posts into the jawbone. The patient will then be sent home for 3 to 6 months while the patient’s jawbone fuses to the implant surface.
Phase Two: This part of the process involves carefully crafting and attaching your new tooth to the dental implant fixture that was previously placed in your jaw. Dental implants can replace a single missing tooth, several teeth, or even a complete row of teeth. Your provider can recommend the best choice for you and your oral health goals. Once the replacement tooth has been attached, you will be able to smile, speak, eat, and chew just as you would with a natural tooth.
Will The Procedure Be Painful?
We are happy to report that most of our patients say that their dental procedure was no more painful than a tooth extraction. To ensure that you have a pain-free procedure, general anesthetic will be administered during your surgery. After your procedure, over-the-counter pain medications can usually be used to control any residual pain.
